Home again

We are back from our Toronto, Montreal, Eastern Townships trip and I've gotten everything unpacked and a load of laundry going. After some garden maintenance I'll deal with the pictures we took and post some of my favourites.

In the meantime, here's a shot of the yarn we bought on our travels:

Thibault is checking it out, of course. In fact, while I walked away to find the last skeins he started chomping on a ball of sock yarn. He does like himself some wool! I actually only bought 3 of these skeins, and they're either gifts or to be knitted as gifts. The cotton was a really good deal, and Dave will knit it into dish cloths over the winter, and sock yarn doesn't count as stash (especially since we give away almost all of the socks we knit!) so not bad over all, I think. :-)

One more time in June...

Dave and I have each finished a pair of socks in the last couple of days.

I knit these for a friend in California.

Dave knit these for a friend who's moving to Montreal.

Growing things...

Things are growing on the patio...

We are having very good growing weather - alternating rain and warm sunshine. This is the first cherry tomato to have set:

And here is a progress photo on the first of the heirloom striped tomatoes. No stripes yet.

Socks are growing too:

This is the second one of the Orangey Goodness pair. The first one isn't finished yet, but I have to meter out the orange yarn so I'll knit this one to match and see where I get to. I should have enough of the yellow to do the toes... I hope, otherwise things may get interesting!

Baby shower

I just got home from a baby shower for two of my colleagues. Baby Saiya is beautiful, and she will look very stylish in her Baby Surprise and booties. The other baby is due in September, and s/he got the blue booties I made in the winter as well as this hat to match.

It's so fun to knit for babies, and especially nice when knitted gifts are opened before an audience of non-knitters, who can't believe it's possible to make such things!

Last day of May

I thought I would get in one more post while it's still May. I hoped to write while I was at the 15th Annual Okanagan Knitters' Retreat in Sorrento last weekend, but I just didn't get the chance. It was a wonderful weekend however. I focused my photography efforts on the flowers and shrubs, looking for interesting colour combinations. Maybe I can play around with the colours in future art projects.

We also discovered Quilchena when we took the 5A instead of the Coquihalla between Merritt and Kamloops. It was a lovely drive, and the old hotel and general store are wonderful.

I even bought a dress at the general store - made in Canada!

There was a great erratic boulder in the hotel garden.

The rest of these photos were taken on the grounds of the Sorrento Centre.

I learned that this beautiful tree is a sunburst locust.

This huge bumblebee appeared to be having a break - it didn't move for the longest time...

This was the view from my bedroom window.

I hope you have a wonderful month of June, everyone!
